WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AN ACCOUNTANT, A CPA, AND A BOOKKEEPER?

Bookkeepers, accountants, and certified public accountants (CPAs) all work with businesses' financial data. A bookkeeper records and classifies a company's daily financial transactions such as sales, payroll, payment of bills, etc. Their focus is on accurate record-keeping and less focused on interpreting the data and analytics.

An accountant builds on the information that is provided to them by the bookkeeper. Accountants can review business finances and give management a big-picture perspective. The bookkeeper records data; accountants turn it into usable information for business planning. Accountant duties include:

  • Tax advice and Tax planning

  • Financial projections for the business's future

  • Oversight and recommendations regarding company spending.

The difference between a CPA and a regular accountant is that only CPAs can write an audited financial statement, such as a balance sheet or income statement. Aaron Grace Bookkeeping LLC has a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) on staff to provide all the services mentioned above.

WHAT DOES THE SET-UP PROCESS INCLUDE?

Whether or not you have bookkeeping in action, set up can take between 1 - 2 weeks. It depends heavily on how quickly you can get us everything we need. Even if you already set up your books, we’ll still need to spend time reviewing your chart of accounts and the current state of your bookkeeping. We’ll also walk you through getting us access to everything we need to have a full view of your business’ finances. We'll need to be able to login to your payment processors like Shopify or Stripe as well as getting special view-only access to your bank and credit cards.
